Installing Visual Studio onto Vista

Here's a minor note for those installing Visual Studio 5 on Windows Vista. I had loads of problems with this, using this PC. Ultimately the reason I had problems was I basically attempted to install an older version of Visual Studio and related Patches and that screwed up the system. I was getting Package failing to load errors . If you try to uninstall the older version of VS and then attempt to install VS5 it still doesn't work.

What has worked for me is the following, after much reading around the problem. Uninstall Windows vista and then install Visual studio 5 then the VS SP1 and then the Visual Studio SP1 for Vista, in that order. The Service Packs can be found at the MSDN site.

Asp.Net CollapsiblePanelExtender

Just been playing around with asp.net extensions, after abit of tinkering I've managed to get the collapsiblePanelExtender Working. Here's the code behind, I've basically got the repeater binding to an xml document, with all the content. I've used the
collapsiblePanelExtender with the Panel to display the Information ablum information. http://www.ooteeni.co.uk/Music.aspx. One thing I can't workout is why it doesn't hide all of the contents.
The second repeater (the list of tracks) is enclosed within the Panel yet it doesn't get get hidden??
Here's the sample of the code

Quiet or what

Must mention that this pc is really quiet, not sure if it's because by old pc sounded like a tumble drier or what. The fan noise is really low and you only notice any noise when the pc start performing more complicated tasks.

I've tried the memory and it doesn't work, I think you have to install the memory in pairs so I'm replacing the
  • Corsair 1GB DDR2 533 MHz 128mx64 Non-ecc 240 Dimm Unbuffered Cl4
for
  • Kingston ValueRAM's KVR533D2N4K2/1G is a kit of two 64M x 64-bit (512MB) DDR533 CL4 SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) memory modules. Total kit capacity is 1GB. The components on each module include eight 64M x 8-bit (16M x 8-bit x 4 Bank) DDR533 SDRAM in FBGA packages. Each 240-pin DIMM uses gold contact fingers and requires +1.8V.

Or something like that anyway, I'll you know how I get on. Still having trouble installing visual studio 5 on Vista platform, I've tried a number of patches and nothing seemed to have worked. I've going to uninstall VS5 and try again.

New PC arrives Today

Yeah, new pc arrived today, I got it from Ebuyer for £356.00 with the additional memory. Hope the memory goes on the box ok? This is the spec of the box, it's not the best performance in the world but for the price is good value for money.

I'm going to plug it in tonight and see how I get on, and if any ones got this box let me know what you think of it. I'll let you know how I get on and what the customer services are like from ebuyer, I've heard there not very good!
